Liverpool's title hopes suffered a setback as they played out an astonishing 4-4 draw with Arsenal at Anfield. Andrey Arshavin netted all four of Arsenal's goals in a topsy-turvy encounter and looked to have secured victory with a fantastic breakaway effort with moments to go, but there was still time for Yossi Benayoun to snatch a point for Liverpool and send them, temporarily at least, back to the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners had taken a surprise 1-0 lead into half-time despite being firmly on the back foot for long periods, with Arshavin crashing the ball in off the crossbar after 36 minutes. Fernando Torres levelled with a powerful header from Dirk Kuyt's cross early in the second half and a brave Benayoun put Liverpool 2-1 in front moments later after poor defending from the Gunners. Arshavin dispossessed Alvaro Arbeloa to equalise with a superb shot from outside the area on 67 minutes and the Russian playmaker then grabbed his third of the evening to silence the Anfield crowd. Liverpool responded again and made it 3-3 thanks to a clinical finish from Torres 18 minutes from time, but the drama was far from over as Arshavin's fourth was cancelled out by Benayoun. Shaky defending Torres and Albert Riera should have done better with their early efforts to test the fragile confidence of Lukasz Fabianski but both fired straight at the goalkeeper.
