Naturalized US citizen racially profiled in Maryland
A victim of racial profiling, Antonio Ramirez, a naturalized US citizen, spoke about the racial profiling he is being victim along with other Native and Latino immigrants in Frederick county, Maryland. He was on the verge of tears while describing the several experiences he has faced as a result of the 287g Program enforcement. Ramirez -of Indigenous heritage- was a witness at the April 2, 2009 Hearing of the at the US House Committee on the Judiciary titled Public Safety and Civil Rights Implications of State and Local Enforcement of Federal Immigration Laws which debated the abuses and failures of the Department of Homeland Securitys 287g Program, which allows local and state police to enforce immigration federal legislation.
