The first Rossini one-acters are bound to have a piece or two for for the supporting singers to round out the whole piece. "L'occasione fa il ladro" features a particularly exciting piece written for Martine, the servant to Parmenione, the "villan" of the piece. In this piece, similar in its' theme to Leporello's great monologue, "Madamina, il catalogo e questo". In the piece, Martine lists his master's defects, summarizing that "he is an absolute ignoramus, but he knows how to charm the ladies". The piece is written in a rather unusual (for the period) ABA form and it has a particularly spirited string accompaniment. Claudio Desderi, albeit a bit younger than in the previous piece, sings this wonderful aria. Enjoy :)! |
