FC STEAUA BUCHARESTI (ROMANIA)

FC Steaua Bucuresti is a Romanian football club, playing in the capital, Bucharest.

It is the most successful football club in Romania. Created in 1947 as ASA (Army Sport Association), the club changed its name several times before settling on "Steaua" (English: The Star) in 1961. The team's colors are red and blue.

In 1986, Steaua became the first eastern European club to win the European Champions Cup, doing so in a penalty shoot-out against FC Barcelona. The following year they were victorious in the European Super Cup against Dynamo Kyiv. The club has also won a record 21 Romanian league titles (6 consecutive in the 90s and 11 out of 20 in the 80s and 90s) and 20 Romanian Cups.

Steaua has been home to many major Romanian football stars, such as Gheorghe Hagi, Gheorghe Popescu, Miodrag Belodedici, Ilie Dumitrescu and Dan Petrescu. All time top-scorer is Anghel Iordanescu (146 goals in 14 seasons), current coach of the national side. Steaua played an extraordinary world-record 104 games without defeat in the late 1980s when they went three successive Romanian league seasons, and more than three years, unbeaten.

Since 1974 the home of Steaua has been the Ghencea Stadium, capacity 27,000.
