Tromsø
IL is a Norwegian football club founded in 1920, from the city of Tromsø. It
was promoted to the Norwegian Premier League in 2002 after one year in the
first division following 16 consecutive seasons in the highest division. In
2003 they barely rescued their place in the Premier League scoring a winning
goal three minutes over time in the seasons final match against league
champions Rosenborg B.K.. The arrival of Per Mathias Høgmo before the 2004
season proved to be a success. Tromsø had one of their best seasons ever,
and ended on a 4th place in the league, which qualified them for the Royal
League and, because of S.K. Brann's victory in the Norwegian Cup, the UEFA
Cup. The 2005 season remains a question, however, since Høgmo has decided
not to extend his contract, and Tromsø has decided on former assistant
manager Otto Ulseth as his replacement.
Home Ground: Alfheim (cap. 10 000) (Norway's largest grass-field (110m x
70m)) (Tromsø also owns an indoor field, Skarphallen, which is used for
training. It may not be used for matches because of its small capacity)
Famous (ex-)Players: Sigurd Rushfeldt (FK Austria Wien), Tore Andre Flo
(A.C. Siena), Ole Martin Årst (Tromsø), Bjarte Flem (Retired), Morten Gamst
Pedersen (Blackburn Rovers)
