Andriy Shevchenko was born in Ukraine at
Dvirkivshchyna on the 29th of September 1976. He plays as a striker. He
lived most of his life in Kiev. His career successes includes five
Ukrainian Championships, three Ukrainian Cups, he is currently the
Ukrainian best national team scorer. His favorite coach is the current
Dinamo Kiev coach Valeri Lobanovski who also coached the ex Soviet Union
team (USSR) in the Italian World Cup in year 1990.
Till now he played at
Dinamo Kiev in Ukraine and at AC Milan in Italy. He has a five years
contract which expires in 2004. He is about 1,83 m high and he weights
about 70 kilograms.
His transfer from Dinamo
Kiev to AC Milan is one of the biggest ever made, the rossoneri president
Silvio Berlusconi paid 25 millions $ for him + a friendly match between
the two teams.
Shevchenko became
appreciated in Europe from the Dinamo Kiev's Champions Leagues matches. He
contributed to the surprise from the 1997 CL groups when he scored a hat
trick against Barcelona on Nou Camp stadium. In 1998 he was the the goal
scorer on the Champions Leagues with 11 goals, taking Dinamo Kiev to a
semifinal lost against Bayern Munich, the Germany champions.
He made his debut in the
national team against Croatia in March 1995, game ended 4-0 for the
Ukrainians.
The AC Milan fans are
comparing him to the great Dutch player, Marco van Basten. He only says
that Marco was a good player. His favorites football players are Johan
Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Gabriel Omar Batistuta.
He likes
ice hockey. He also likes fishing, tennis and reading.
